Barack Hussein Obama is the next President of the United States of America. America can now join the modern world and shed its ugly past and outdated, incompatible conservative republican ideologies. Obama is far from being to the left in terms of the rest of the world, but its as close to centre left as America has ever been.

Hope is finally Realised..

i have written on many country and society-focused topics before but with what is likely to be one of the more important elections in modern United States history upon us, I felt now was the time for increased activity on my part. First, a little background on me.
I am a married white male of European decent in my mid-thirties, raising a family. I live on the cusp between a rural and suburban area in the central portion of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I am a self-employed software engineer working from my home office, though I have worked in various locales and industries throughout the years.
I was raised in Philadelphia in our familial home by both parents. I also have two siblings, each of whom are older than I. My family was one of European immigrants only a few generations settled in the United States. My father was a committee person for the Democratic Party for over twenty years, and as such, politics were always at the forefront of our discussions in the home. We all attended public school and at one point received government provided food stamps due to a physical accident forcing the family business to go under after a decade.
Why do I bring all of this to the forefront prior to any postings? I do this to show from where I came, and as a reference when I draw parallels on varying topics. Now for where I stand.
I am an unabashed socialist minded democrat (or social democrat to be more specific). I believe that government's first responsibility is to its people. I believe that while capitalism can create vast amounts of wealth, it shouldn't be done at the expense of its people. I believe that government should ensure health care for all and that it should be subsidised by all working people. I believe that no one should be without shelter, clothing or food.
I believe that science should be taught and prevail in the public's view without the superstitions of religious believers and their antiquated ways. I feel that it is a modern, advanced society that recognises intelligence, hard word, community service and charity as forms of excellence necessary in a leader and that military responsibilities and experiences should not be used as any form of qualification for governmental roles sans those related to the military. I believe that government has no place in the matters of dictating any form of morality which is exclusionary to those who harm no others.
And finally, I believe that in order for the United States to come out of the Dark Ages and join the modern world, its inhabitants need to change their ways by casting aside the notion of bigger is better, greed is all right, belief over fact, might makes right and that we are somehow not responsible to and for one another's well being. If we allow our neighbour to fail, then we ourselves have fail.
